With
the explosion of generative AI applications like ChatGPT and Sora, the
computing power demand of data centers is growing exponentially.
Traditional "air cooling" can no longer meet the needs of
high-power-density AI servers, and "liquid cooling" technology is
becoming mainstream. However, the coolant in liquid cooling systems
often has extremely strong permeability, posing a huge challenge to
sealing materials. A new type of "fluorosilicone rubber sealing
solution" is quietly becoming the "invisible guardian" of AI server
liquid cooling systems.
In
an immersed liquid cooling system, the server motherboard is completely
submerged in fluorinated liquid (such as 3M's electronic fluorinated
liquid or its domestic substitute). Although this fluorinated liquid is
insulating and non-conductive, its molecules are extremely small and can
easily penetrate the molecular chain gaps of ordinary rubber, causing
seals to swell and fail, leading to liquid leakage accidents that cost
millions of dollars. Ordinary nitrile rubber or EPDM rubber will swell
and deform after being soaked in fluorinated liquid for a few weeks,
while fluorosilicone rubber,凭借其 unique "fluorine-silicon" dual-gene
structure, possesses both the low-temperature flexibility of silicone
rubber and the oil and liquid resistance of fluoroelastomer.
The
latest specially developed fluorosilicone rubber controls the volume
expansion rate to within 5% in tests with hydrogen fluoride ether (HFE)
coolant dedicated to data centers, far lower than industry standards. In
addition, considering the vibration generated by the long-term
operation of AI servers, the material also incorporates special
reinforcing fillers, increasing its tear strength by 40%. Industry
experts point out that with the advancement of the "East Data, West
Computing" project, fluorosilicone rubber will play an indispensable
role in the future construction of green data centers, ensuring the
"coolness" and "safety" of computing power infrastructure.
