How to distinguish fluorosilicone rubber from ordinary silicone rubber?

Fluorosilicone rubber is a homogeneous mixture of fluorosilicone elastomer and various fillers and additives.

Fluorosilicone rubber combines the advantages of silicone rubber and fluorine rubber:
1. Wide operating temperature range (-60~200℃);
2. It has solvent resistance and oil resistance similar to fluorine rubber;
3. Retain the advantages of high tensile retention rate of silicone rubber at high temperatures;
4. Good insulation performance;
5. Low breathability and meets environmental protection requirements.

So how to distinguish fluorosilicone rubber from ordinary silicone rubber?

Feel
Silicone rubber is relatively more delicate and smooth in appearance, with shorter wire drawings; fluorosilicone rubber is relatively rough, tough, and has longer wire drawings.

Craftsmanship
For fluorosilicone rubber and silicone rubber with similar hardness, silicone rubber generally has less shrinkage at the beginning of smelting.

For fluorosilicone rubber and silicone rubber with similar hardness, the density of fluorosilicone rubber is generally higher than that of silicone rubber.

combustion method
For the fluorosilicone compound and silicone compound without added flame retardant, the fluorosilicone compound takes a slightly longer time to ignite, and the silicone compound is easier to ignite. For both of them, which are reinforced with silica black, the smoke and ashes of burning silicone compound are whiter.

Resistance testing method
For fluorosilicone rubber and silicone rubber that do not contain conductive substances, the volume resistivity of fluorosilicone rubber is generally smaller than that of silicone rubber.

Other methods
Others include the solvent method and the Mooney viscosity test method. For the vulcanized state, the vulcanization characteristic test method can also be used.

Tips
It is recommended to use three or more methods to make a more accurate judgment. A single method sometimes has shortcomings, such as low-hardness, high-filling rubber, structural tendencies, and rubber with flame retardants added.
