Leveraging the siloxane backbone, the silicone family has three distinct "brothers".
-
Silicone Oil:
The liquid member with a low-molecular linear structure, flowing
clearly at room temperature. Widely used as lubricant and cosmetic
emollient for its excellent lubricity and insulation.
-
Silicone Rubber:
The elastomer representative, forming elastic solids via vulcanization
of high-molecular polymers. With great temperature resistance and
biocompatibility, it is used in baking mats, artificial organs, and
power insulators.
-
Silicone Resin:
The tough guardian with a highly cross-linked network structure,
forming hard coatings after curing. It is the core material for
high-temperature-resistant coatings and insulating varnishes.
